 Car Giving

My husband has been driving his mother’s older car since she passed away.  Recently, although it was still running well, it failed inspection and required another costly repair.  We decided to put the repair money that would have been required toward a newer car instead.

A long-time friend asked what we planned to do with the old car.  He knew a man who had lost both his job and his truck and needed to travel to construction sites to apply for work.  We explained that the car would not pass inspection.  He said this person had a friend who is a mechanic and could do the repairs for him at cost.

The man came the next day to look at the car.  He offered to do whatever electrical projects we might have around the house, or to have the car repaired, use it until he could afford to purchase a vehicle, and then return it to us.  Instead, we talked with him about Pay-It-Forward, asked him to please take the car and when he no longer needs it, to give it to someone who does.  He smiled, shook our hands, and promised that he would most certainly “pay it forward”.
